What you need to know about the base program

 

 

 

Congratulations for taking on one of Takapuna Harrier Clubs Junior training programs!

 

My name is Scott Larsen and I have designed the program for you and your ability.  I have based this on many years of running experience and under the guidance of some of New Zealand’s top coaches.  If you feel that the program you have been set is too easy give me a call and we can look at getting you on a tougher regime.  Alternatively if you think the program is too hard, it’s ok, we can also have a look at why this is and find a better program for your needs.

 

I have designed the program as I understand you are in school and have many things going on in your life.  This may not be your primary sport and you may be simultaneously juggling several sports commitments.  This is great and I fully encourage playing several sports for most of your high school years.  Our goal is to provide a place where you can get fit whilst having fun with your friends.

 

Some things to note about your program:

  • This is a base program! Work through the weeks and if you miss more than 3 sessions in a row, it is getting too much for you.  Go back to week one and start the program again.  Keep doing this until you can go through the entire program from week one to 10.
  • If you are full on with study or other commitments feel free to take a day off here and their.  Just remember the 3 session rule above and also this is your program, don’t blame anyone on your poor performance if you are going to miss key training sessions.
  • If you are feeling sick, run down or having niggles in your legs and body give me a call.  It’s often much better to catch these problems before they affect your training and racing.
  • Don’t feel pressure from anyone to train, doing this program is your decision.  At any stage feel free to give me a call and have a chat about problems you may be having.
  • Have fun and bring your friends from other sports teams you may be in!
